OverLap RealRidge is now available in SSQ Riverstone slate

This project was really exciting for the collaboration between Mayan roofing systems and SSQ (Spanish Slate Quarries).

We recently developed the unique Overlap RealRidge in collaboration with SSQ to accentuate their beautiful slate and the Riverstone product.

Riverstone is one of the most premium slate roofing products available, so it has been a real honour to be able to work with this fantastic material. Being able to create a high-performance and stunning Ridges that perfectly match the slates on the roof has been a complete game changer and adds huge value to the Riverstone offering.

For decades, pristine slate roofs were marred by ridges that clashed with their natural yet sleek appearance. This issue arose because it wasn’t possible to make ridges from natural slate, whilst also having high performance and easy installation, forcing installers to use man-made materials instead, where the traditional aestetic was tarnished with different colour shades, exposed fixing clips, visible vent systems or unsuitable finishings.

However, the invention of Mayans RealRidge has changed the game for finishing slate roofs in style, to the delight of slate experts SSQ.

The Overlap ridges are made from real pieces of Riverstone slate using our patented technology, manufactured into a preformed angled dry ridge system that is completely unique in the world.

Features of Riverstone slate include its hardness, making it an extremely durable product. The durability of the slate makes it perfect for the ridge at the highest point of the roof where it is most exposed to weather, but until Mayans groundbreaking RealRidge, the matching roof slate could not be effectively installed as a real slate ridge product.

OverLap RealRidge utilises the hardness and durability of Riverstone product combined with innovative manufacturing techniques which further increases the lifespan of the final product using GRP. This allows us to use a thinner profiled slate and install in the overlap method to give a unique and striking appearance. Using a 9 to 11 mm Riverstone slate means that the junction between ridge and slate roof flows together neatly. The overlap appearance lends itself perfectly to a hipped roof, and we now also have a pre-formed ‘Hip Cap’ product available, to be easily installed at the ridge to hip junction and provide additional weatherproofing.

Our pre-manufactured hip starters make installation extremely easy as they are already cut to fit the end of the hip course. The hip ends/starters have a piece of slate bonded to seal the underside/gap, meaning that they are ready to install straight away.

The overlap RealRidge does not require any additional fixing kits or vent systems. Two fixing screws with natural washers are provided with the system and this is all that’s needed to install the ridges. They fit perfectly onto the Rich and then screwed on either side. The tail of the following Ridge is then fixed over the previous one to provide further fixing force, and screw down on the other end, and so on.

Overlap RealRidge has been designed with ventilation built-in. Ventilation is provided in the perfect position on either side of the ridge through the air gaps created, which meter standard for ventilation at the high-level, providing unobstructed free air ventilation which cannot be restricted, which is requirement for modern homes, to avoid condensation issues, as well as for roofs with solar installation.

The real rhythm is completely unique in the world and extremely modern, with high performance that meets and exceeds building standards and a premium high-end look perfectly compliment a slate roof.

The contractor and final customer were extremely pleased with this roof, and great for one of the first installations of the new overlap RealRidge in Riverstone slate.
